What is a Bomboniere?

The giving of Bomboniere goes back hundreds of years and originated in France during the Renaissance Period. From France the tradition moved to Italy, Greece and Southern Europe. The Father and Mother of the Bride or the Best Man (depending on the culture) gave each guest a small pouch of five or seven (an uneven number) sugar coated almonds as a token of thanks. The pouch was tied with a ribbon and a bomboniere card with the name of the Bride and Groom attached.

The five almonds symbolise health, wealth, happiness, fertility and luck.

Today bomboniere are given to guests as a keepsake of the wedding. Sugar coated almonds are traditional, while chocolates and other gifts like candles, photo frames and other confectionary are now also popular. The gifts can be given at the end of the celebrations or placed on the table; they can even double up as the place card.

It is a lovely way of saying thank you to your guests for celebrating your special day with you.

For the full selection of our bomboniere range, please make an appointment to visit our showroom in Bonython, ACT. You'll love what you see.
